All competing kites must fly:
- On a minimum of 10 feet of line
- For a minimum flight time of 5 minutes
- At a minimum positive flight angle of 10 degrees

- Audaciousness of design, color and flight performance
- Humor value (How much does it make you laugh?)
Biggest
- Total surface area (not including tail area)
Smallest
- Total surface area (not including tail area)
Longest Tail
Most Innovative
- Originality of concept, flight performance, design and construction
Best Ground Display
- Number of kites
- Variety of kite types
- Use of banners
Most Beautiful
- Best use of color, flight performance and three-dimensional shape
- Impressiveness (ability to attract and capture audience's attention)
Best of Show (Spectators' Vote)
- Loudest and longest audience applause during the Best of Show judging
